- 1Thingvellir National Park
The first stop is in the National Park, which is very important for the history of Iceland, as it was there that the Icelandic parliament Althingi first met in 930, which is one of the oldest parliamentary institutions in the world, which is still in operation today. The Althingi met here until the end of the 18th century. The full independence of the Republic of Iceland was declared in this same place on 17 June 1944. In 1928, a national park was established in this area, which was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2004.
