Overview

We are proud to offer guests this option to experience the rarely-traveled “backside” of the Road to Hana- including the amazing landscapes of Kipahulu, Kaupo, and Ulupalakua! With our Ultimate Package, your group will get to experience everything included in the standard Road to Hana tour, and then continue on past Hana. It’s almost impossible to believe, but the landscape becomes even more dramatic beyond Hana. The highway follows the coast into Kipahulu, where impressive jungle is punctuated by astonishing cliffs plunging into the ocean. Here, you will get an opportunity to swim in Wailua Falls, a stunning 80 foot waterfall plunging into a pleasant pool. As we travel through Kaupō, the terrain changes from dense jungle into windswept, rolling hills cut by deep ravines.

  1. 1
    Paia Pass by

A surfer town with tons of character, Paia is the perfect way to kick off your journey to Hana. If your group needs a little energy boost, we can stop at one of the cafes in town and grab a round of coffee. Alice is Hululand is the perfect spot to grab a funky souvenir, or find out what tasty tropical fruit is in season at Mana Foods!

  2. 2
    Ho'okipa Beach Park 30 minutes

Watch the surfers catching massive waves at one of the most famous and sought-after surf breaks in the world. And then for the wildlife-lovers of your group, this is a terrific spot to see Green Hawaiian Sea Turtles! They love to congregate in a corner of the beach right underneath a platform ideal for viewing and snapping a few pictures.

  3. 3
Wailua Valley State Wayside Park 15 minutes

One of the most awe-inspiring views on the Road to Hana, look out over the tranquil village of Wailua and the vast ocean beyond. Facing Haleakela, you are treated to a panorama of the Ko'olau Gap, a densely forested valley stretching as far as the eye can see towards the crater. See how many waterfalls you can count cascading down the valley walls! Gap, a densely forested valley stretching as far as the eye can see towards the crater. See how many waterfalls you can count cascading down the valley walls!

  4. 4
    Ke‘anae Point 30 minutes

A stunning black volcanic rock shoreline that juts out into the powerful waves of the Pacific is the backdrop to a glimpse of the Maui's past. Here in Keʻanae, the traditional method of loʻi kalo (wetland taro) agriculture is still practiced. Enjoy a loaf of the famous Aunty Sandy's banana bread (as featured on National Geographic's Uncharted with Gordon Ramsey!) while you watch and listen to the thunderous waves breaking on shore.

  5. 5
    Pua'a Ka'a State Park 30 minutes

Looking to cross "swim in a waterfall in Hawaii" off your bucket list? Now's your chance! With not one, but TWO gorgeous waterfalls that have natural pools ideal for swimming, you can take a dip in cool, refreshing water flowing straight from the slopes of Haleakela. For the adrenaline seekers in your group, there is also a safe spot to cliff-jump at one of the waterfalls here!

  6. 6
    Koki Beach 15 minutes

Witness the jaw-dropping beauty of ‘Ālau Island, a seabird sanctuary dramatically battered by waves. Enjoy the view while strolling along the pockets of red sand beach, and look out at Leho‘ula sea arch back towards town. Uncle Russell's Huli Huli Chicken, as featured on National Geographic's Uncharted with Gordon Ramsey, makes an excellent plate lunch to be savored at a picnic table looking out on this gorgeous landscape.

  7. 7
    Hamoa Beach 30 minutes

An absolutely beautiful beach that is perfect for body-surfing, Hamoa Beach is nestled within a ring of cliffs overflowing with greenery. Soft sand runs all the way into the crystal-clear water, so the whole family can enjoy the waves without worrying about rocks!

  8. 8
    Hana 45 minutes

By now, your crew has probably worked up quite the appetite! Luckily, there are several dining options in Hana and outside of town. For fantastic wood-fired pizza topped with veggies grown right on-site, Hana Farms is a great stop for both lunch and picking out fresh organic produce. There is also a food truck park in town with several options, Braddah Hutt's BBQ Grill just outside of town, or the Hana Ranch Restaurant if you feel like soaking in an ocean view with your meal. After lunch, we'll load up and take your group to Hana Bay, where you can enjoy a great view of Hana Town, and hear about the fascinating history of this area.

  9. 9
    Wailua Falls 30 minutes

Take a refreshing dip beneath the cascading waters of Wailua Falls, an 80-foot waterfall! Surrounded by lush rainforest, this oasis invites you to swim in the cool, crystal-clear pool.

  10. 10
    Stop Pass by

By now, the day is winding down. There is no better way to catch the sunset than by looking out over the South Maui coastline from Ulupalakua, an area of quiet ranch land and striking views. Here, Hawaiian cowboys, or paniolos, herded cattle and established a unique cowboy culture that predated the American West.

  11. 11
    Huialoha Church 15 minutes

Visually stunning, the Mokulau Islets are a number of lava rocks offshore from the beautiful Huialoha Church. The church itself was painstakingly restored by members of the community in the 1970's. This corner of the backside feels genuinely remote — few visitors ever make it this far.
